Also part of this park is the Imjingak station that still has the railroad that connects the North and the South. Freedom Bridge is where the former South Korean and Allied POW's were traded and could return safely back home. So this bridge has a lot of significance for those people and their families.

A train, that was registered as a World Cultural Heritage in 2004, can also be seen here. It was part of the war and is full of bullet holes. The description can be seen in the picture below.

The fences are full of colorful ribbons. People write their wishes on these ribbons and hang them on the fences. These wishes are mostly for reunification of the 2 Koreas and the ending of the long war, that's technically still ongoing because no peace treaty has been agreed upon yet.

I've recently met one of the allied POW's that was part of this war. Seeing this and remembering him and the terrible time the POW's went through made this so much more real than just another place to see. It made the history so much more real, than what I could ever have thought. I can now see why so many people still go there everyday to pay their respects, make their wishes and say their prayers.

One weekend we decided to drive around and ended up at Imjingak Park. At first I wasn't aware of it, but later realized that this is also where the DMZ(Demilitarized Zone) is.

The park is a reminder for the families that were torn during the Korean war. It's a place where families can gather and enjoy their day camping out, watching performances and also pay their respect during important days like, Korean Thanksgiving.

This park is quite relaxing and a good place to have some time out with your family or friends and just enjoy the wide open space. Kite flying is quite popular and looks like a lot of fun. The park is also full of statues and items that remind you of the war.
