Johannesburg is a city with an amazing history. If you look at the photos from the late 1800's and early 1900's,  you'll see just how ambitious they were back then. 

Being in the center of the gold rush, Johannesburg was booming and because of that, they built an amazing city, ahead of its time. 

Victory House, was one such building. It was the most prestigious building in Johannesburg at the time. It had 5 stories and was one of the first "skyscrapers" and lead the way to the future. It also featured the first lift in Johannesburg, which had visitors in awe for weeks. (1) 

This building also housed the offices of Mahatma Gandhi, who was the leader of the Indian independence movement in British-ruled India. 

Today this building is being used as a "sweat shop", where hundreds of tailors are making clothes to sell. 

The Heritage Property Portfolio acquired this building and have big plans for it. They gave us a little insider access to all the nooks of this property, including the basement areas, where we got to see the original lift. 

I couldn't be more excited to see that this building will be restored and even better, used to its full potential. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to divulge any plans, but I'll say this, it's going to be a luxurious space and really something to behold.
