I love subways! Back in South Africa we don't have it and when I came to South Korea, I completely fell in love with the idea of it. 

First standing on the the escalators, behind all these strangers and going down into the underground. On the way down you notice a random artwork mural. 

When you get on the platform, you have to look at the signs to see which direction to go. The doors are still closed and while you wait for the train, you notice the poem on the glass about "love". You read it and wait for it to sink in and then you try to understand it and the reason why it was chosen to be used at that particular spot. 

The train takes longer than expected and you look on the screen to see where the train is. It's just two stops away. Almost there. You notice the loving couple in the advertisement. Still waiting for the train. 

Your train arrives. The doors open and you find an open seat. You look around and notice all the people in your cart. Everyone keeping to their own. Playing games, chatting or watching dramas on the smartphones. Some folks fall asleep and others just stare.  

You notice that when you look straight down the middle of the train, that you can see how far it stretches and you can see it's every move. You get all philosophical about it.  "It's almost like you can predict the future." When the train turns, you can see it and know that you will most certainly turn as well. Even if it's just a few seconds, you know that whatever is happening to the front, will happen to you. 

I love subways. The people, the rush, the crawl, the frustration, the games, the couples, the love, THE LIVES, THE STORIES. Each person has their own story. Each of them is heading in the same direction, yet each of them are getting off at their own destination. 

What is your next destination? 

Itaewon is one of the most famous areas in Seoul. It has a lot of restaurants with international cuisines like India, Pakistan,Turkey, The United States, Canada, Germany, Spain, Italy,England, France and Mexico. It attracts a lot of tourists and locals alike, that would like to see a vibrant, culture rich area. 

The streets are filled with unique restaurants, bars and clubs. Some are simple, yet striking while others are more impressive and catches your eye immediately. Itaewon has a lot of cool little alleys and streets where you will find more amazing places, the hidden gems if you will. 

The night life in Itaewon is definitely worth experiencing. People hop from bars to lounges and clubs all night long. 

I've had many great experiences with some amazing friends there. It feels like you can almost forget that you are in Korea. Especially if you are an expat and living in South Korea. Going there can bring you a little closer to home or at least make you feel less home sick. When you travel to Korea you must see Itaewon area. It's a great place to meet and experience people and cultures from all around the world. 

One Sunday morning, after brunch at a South African Restaurant, I walked around Itaewon for a quick photo session with my new 35mm prime lens.  I wanted to see how it will perform in a busy area. I also didn't want to edit any photos. Here is the result of my afternoon walk in Itaewon.
